Ivory Lace and Lavender Rose Wedding Cake

This week we worked nonstop to create this 5 tier round wedding cake for a wedding at University Park Country Club in Sarasota, FL.
Each tier was made from different cake and butter cream flavors : White almond cake, fresh lemon cake with chocolate hazelnut and fresh raspberries butter cream.

The entire cake was covered with ivory fondant and Lavender fondant sash was draped around the second tier from the bottom. Handmade fondant lace was decorating the top tiers.

A lot of Rhine stones , crystals and bling-bling was used on each tier. Fifty Lavender roses were placed in between tiers and were cascading down the cake. LED lights were placed among lavender roses to highlight the crystals.

Why can't we be like seahorses?

I absolutly adore seahorses....  We sculpt "Kissing seahorses" wedding cake topper out of gum paste and place them on the top of the wedding cake among chocolate corals and edible seashells.

They are the most romantic species ....They find their ideal mate and stay with them for life... They dance around the sea with their tales linked and sleep this way at all times so tide would not separate them... How lovely is that? The best part about them is that the male is the one who is pregnant.
Why can't we be like seahorses?

Will you know how to cut your wedding cake?

When the time comes....Will you know how to cut your wedding cake?

The cake-cutting ceremony happens near the end of the wedding. After dinner, DJ or your
wedding planner will signal you that it’s time to cut the cake. The only set rule is that the groom’s right hand covers the bride’s right hand as you cut the bottom layer of the cake
together with a good serrated knife,   one that you purchased especially for this day. Not
everyone follows the rules…A sward can come handy too :)

One reason for cutting the bottom layer of
the wedding cake is so you don’t damage the tower and end up crashing it...

No worries, The Cake Zone's wedding cakes are safe to cut in any layer.....

The other reason is so that the top layer of the cake can be saved. You as a couple will take it home, place it in the freezer, and eat it on your first anniversary. It’s only symbolic, so you can do whichever you like.

Some people like to smash wedding cake into each other’s faces. But when you have paid to have your beautiful makeup, hair, and gown look pristine, you’re not going to want cake splattered everywhere. It’s up to you though. If you are fun-loving and want to do it, go for it.

Be careful though, you can start a food fight at your wedding :)

The Groom's Cake Tradition

The groom’s cake has a long history.... But, Brides always ask me the same questions:
Why have one?..... And when is it served?....... Is it required?

A groom’s cake was a part of every wedding in ancient times. This cake, usually soaked in liquor ( we like that part!) and made of something decadent like dark chocolate...What can be better than chocolate and liquor!!!!
It was supposed to be cut and at the end of the wedding sent home with guests. Single women were supposed to take their piece and sleep with it under their pillow so that they would dream of the man they would marry.
The groom’s cake is now being served  at the rehearsal dinner or as an optional dessert at the actual reception.
Ask the groom what his favorite flavor is and then work with that. At The Cake Zone we are getting outrageously creative with the Groom's cake.. If he can dream it We can make it....Is the groom a baseball fan?  Does he love fishing? Does he like a football? Is he a dentist or future doctor?..  So get creative. Go with his favorite hobby or favorite food or sport's team.... Here are a few ideas that have been done by The Cake Zone

Trendy deliciousness

As seen on the runways, the trend of dramatic colors can be seen in the wedding cakes too. The colors, which were considered a little too theatrical for the cakes until last year, are now considered in vogue. However, the customary white and the jewel themed black and white cake will also be in style in 2011.

A weight bar with different weights stacked up made out of gum paste. Flavors included marble cake with cream cheese butter cream. Chocolate fondant was used as a second layer of icing.
